The Bible uses the word “call” often to refer to God’s initiative to bring His people to Christ and to participate in redemptive work in the world. Martin Luther described “calling” as “God’s voice heard by faith.” So what does it mean to be “called into ministry?” In a sense, all Christians are called to Christ, as it says in 1 Peter 2:21“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.”But call to ministry has unique demands, and it should not be pursued without prayer, counsel and spiritual examination.
